Female fronted, 8-piece funk and soul band ALBERT TALES are, unlikely as it may sound, from Israel. Bringing a totally unique and refreshing take to a genre that can sometimes sound generic, the band originally met at music college in Tel Aviv and went into group therapy together before forming their collective! This communal, thoughtful approach to writing music caught the attention of Freshly Squeezed who are proud to release their debut single in the classic format of a dinked and limited edition double A-side 7" vinyl.
TIPSY, side A, kicks around a loose groove and subtle horn interplay before dropping into the gorgeous vocal that lights up the soul at the heart of this band. The track then lifts into the catchy chorus, 'I feel sexy when I'm tipsy...'. Lyrically, the song represents 'Denial', as in the five stages of grief (the other 4 of which all make an appearence on their debut digital EP) and warping this heavy subject matter into deceptively light-hearted soul/pop is what these guys are all about. The flip, I WANNA KNOW, represents 'Anger' but also comes across all infectious chorus, funky brass, angular flute and tight melodic hooks... this one is special. Imagine if Amy Winehouse fronted a funky psychedelic soul band.
